Did you know

Did you know: I used to be a 'professional subject' for a college's psychological experiments. The experiments were always weird because it was important, for the purposes of experimental design, that subjects have no idea what was being studied. This meant that they would often throw bizarre stuff into the mix. I remember one experiment, which was as follows: I was instructed to complete a series of complicated analytical puzzles on a computer, while holding a high-tension spring between my knees. At a certain point, the proctor of the experiment made a pretense of accidentally deleting all of my work from the computer. He asked me a couple of questions about how that made me feel. Then, feigning relieved incredulity, he said "oh, never mind, here they are." I asked him if he enjoyed that part of the experiment and he said, "absolutely not." I was paid $10
